MIND MOVES

What is Mind Moves?

Mind Moves is a movement program that mimics the specific natural movements a baby makes.

These movements are pre-programmed in all of us and their function is to drive development. They develop the senses, brain and body (muscles) and the "wiring" in between (the sensory motor system), i.e. the essential tool-kit for being able to sit still, to concentrate and to learn. They integrate the dominant and non-dominant parts of the body and brain of functions as a whole. Once their job is completed they inhibit to support further physical, emotional and cognitive development. Reflexes that have not inhibited can result in age-inappropriate behavior and can hamper learning.

The purpose of Mind Moves

To integrate and inhibit aberrant primitive reflexes.
To integrate the senses, brain and muscles to promote whole brain/ whole body learning.
To "warm up" the brain for performance of specific academic skills.

I am using Mind Moves in our school and I can suggest that every teacher use these moves. It mends the mind and can effectively be used to help with barriers of learning.  It supports teachers in our mammoth task of educating the nation.

Dr. Melodie de Jager is the founder of Mind Moves. She has regular workshops and she is also training instructors all over South Africa and Namibia. I had an instructor for a Friday and Saturday to instruct our staff. It was great fun and our learners are also benefiting from implementing these moves in classrooms daily.
